Mission Statement
Walking for Charity, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to charitable and humanitarian efforts in Central America and the United States. Through direct work and collaborations with local, state and national charitable organizations, Walking for Charity coordinates support for disabled children, disaster relief work, educational travel, and large scale donations of technology equipment and supplies for public schools and medical organizations. Walking for Charity was founded in 1997, is a registered 501c(3) foundation, and is based in Newton, Massachusetts.
History
Walking for Charity was founded in 1997 to aid children with disabilities in United States. Fundraising initiatives began with individual and team participation in charity walks throughout the United States. In October of 1998 the mission expanded to disaster relief work to help Hondurans affected by the devastating Hurricane Mitch. Since then, Walking for Charity has been involved in rebuilding the life of people affected by poverty in Honduras and Guatemala. The organization organizes and distributes donations of medical equipment, building materials, medication, school supplies, clothing, computers, furniture, non-perishable food, household goods, and electronics to public education facilities and public medical institutions in Central America. We also assist in organizing travel and tours to Central America for medical professionals, students and volunteer groups, where people can engage in volunteer work with their skills to help local communities, while gaining valuable life experiences.
